Programs

Stress inoculation training - Prepares the mind for the mental and emotion struggles you face in a real fight. This is done in a thoughtful and controlled manner to give students a well-rounded capacity to deal with stress, not just at training but every day.

Physical fitness training - Each class includes an element of fitness training to improve your cardiovascular fitness and strength. These are not a replacement for your own fitness regime but rather stimuli to encourage students to consider their own strength, flexibility and endurance training. It also acts as process to push yourself mentally, to achieve your goals and raise your own standards.

This is not sport fighting. Tim prepares his students for real life combat situations where weapons, strikes, multiple attackers and environmental elements can be in play. 

In real life, you do not get to just tap out and the opponent breaks off, In real life, fights can alter the course, length and quality of your life and so training is taken with that seriousness in mind at all times.  

Tim teaches, how to manage a fight from the ground to standing, with weapons pulled or just hands and feet, improvised weapons, OODA loop management and a strong mental state.

MEET THE INSTRUCTOR

Tim has over and 37 years’ experience in the Bujinkan, Tim started training in the system in 1986 and realised that to master this system he was going to have to go to Japan. He made his first trip to Japan in 1990 at the age of 21, then on personal invitation by the Grandmaster himself, Tim moved to Japan in 1997 where he lived and studied under the Masters for 8 years. He is one of the few people to have received his Master (Shihan) licence while living in Japan.

Tim is also fluent in Japanese. 

 

While studying in Japan, Tim established his own dojo in Tokyo, where he passed on the knowledge transmitted to him by the master instructors of the Bujinkan. Tim has taught students all over the world, including Special Forces groups, Military Groups, Police Groups, Security Groups and Civilian Enthusiasts in the USA, Europe, and Australasia.

    The Bathurst Dojo

    The Melbourne Bathurst Dojo is run by Tim Bathurst. The fundamental training concepts that underpin our training for combat fighting.


    1. Reality-based, functional fighting skills that stress inoculate students to “close quarter fighting”.

    2. Weapons based combat that teaches correct structural alignment and efficient energy expenditure for maximum results.

    3. Learn to Stop a fight quickly, as each second the fight continues is an opportunity it can go against you. Control the fight and your opponent quickly, with confidence.

    4. BJJ is effective in the gym, but in the street, where strikes, weapons and multiple opponents are probable, then a better strategy is needed. 

    5. Learn techniques that are effective against weapons, and how to keep your OODA loop ahead of your opponent/s

    6. No Belts or grades; These create over confidence and do not help you control a fight or implement the mental attitude needed to win. Let your skills speak for you, not some belt level.

    7. All weapons and non weapons fighting techniques are adapted to the modern fight. Traditional techniques that do not work have been discarded and only what is effective is taught.

    Training times: Monday to Thursdays (6PM onwards) 

    Tim offers 

    * Group training sessions.

     

    Train with a group of people in a friendly, co-operative environment. Tim enforces safe but challenging training sessions 

    * Private training sessions.

    Tim offers private training for those students who want to advance quickly or train specific skills.
